Gerri Hall - Who Can I Run To (1966)
Featured in show 20 of "The Beat!!!!" From New Orleans' musically historic ninth ward, home to the legendary Lastie family, Jesse Hill, Lee Dorsey, Red Tyler, etc., she began her career singing with Huey Piono Smith and the Clowns. With Smith she recorded the origional version of Rockin' pneumonia for Ace Records in the 1950's.
She also has several rgional Christmas music hits with the label in the 1960's. She sang backup with Earl King on several of his Imperial recordings and also with Smiley Lewis and Benny Spellman in their touring bands. She was a regular performer at the Dew Drop Inn in New Orleans and recorded under her own name for Ace Hello Mr. Dream b/w I'm the one for Atco I Cried A Tear b/w Mr. Blues and when she landed at the Beat in 1966 her latest release was Who Can I Run Too b/w I Lost the Key for Hotline Records. She went on to become a Raelett, singing with Ray Charles, and still lives in New Orleans.
