Bill Campbell

Bill Campbell - Sugar, Sugar (1988)

PCRL Radio P. A. for our 3rd. Birthday of broadcasting. Nice 2-Stepper this, although Bill is a reggae singer. Bill Campbell, born on February 3, 1950 is a UK-based artist performer songwriter arranger, producer. He was born in Jamaica and moved to the UK with his family at the age of fifteen and settled in the city of Nottingham, which is incidentally where he started his career.

Initially, he sung regularly at clubs and at universities throughout England. Bill moved to London in 1972 to continue his musical career. He was signed to EMI in the 1970s and had one song released under the EMI label titled “She’s My Sweetness”, which went in as a chart breaker; however, because of the lack of radio play the song was not a hit. Bill then left EMI to set up his own publishing company BB music/BB Records in 1977 and started to produce World Music (Soca, Reggae, Hi Life and Gospel music) where he has had great success with artists such as Ginger Williams, Owen Gray, Ann and Sonia, Yvonne Curtis, Pete Campbell and himself.

Bill is a lover of all types of music and considers artists such as Otis Redding, Sam Cook, Aretha Franklin and Bob Marley, as well as other greats of the past Reggae and Soul era, as his inspiration. His new album titled ‘Yes we can’ is a tribute to Barack Obama and his successful Presidential campaign. He particularly paid great attention to the production of this CD and endeavoured to create a great Reggae album with a definite Soul feel. His wonderful musical arrangement gives him a distinct advantage over other musical artists/producers in similar genres. www.myspace.com/billcampbellmusic
